NSFW Alert: There's a bit of a buzz right now around Lisa J. Murphy, a Canadian photographer with a certificate in Tactile Graphics from the CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind). She's put out a book for the blind that includes 3-D pornographic images and braille descriptions. But it's not just vanilla T&A in stark white & white. There are pressed-paper syringes, "male love robots" and Satanic ram heads. Apparently each image took 50 hours to create.
Quoted in the UK Telegraph, Murphy said she made the book after realising that the 'blind have been left out in a culture saturated with sexual images.'

Hi there,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your article on my work.
My name is Lisa J. Murphy - I am the artist behind 'tactile mind': A book of nude (3-D) photographs for the blind/vision impaired.
People everywhere have opinions on this work. Some people call it "erotic", "sensual", "original art", "fetish orientated" and "pornographic". I just think it's a cool book of my work for the blind/vision impaired reader.
The CNIB had nothing to do with this project, and I have not volunteered there in years. It's too bad you choose not to support the Institute for the Blind - it is the only one Canada has.
Thank you,
Lisa J. Murphy

ReplyDeleteI think they meant "Dirty, dirty" in a good way. It's just a hook to get you reading.
Great work by, by the way!
